COMMENTS
|
Japanese 1st. E.P. Odeon label has "Odeon 33 Compact" across the top and "STEREO" across the middle of the label, and all Odeon Compact 33's were issued in stereo (or simulated stereo). "She Loves You", the original stereo master tape is widely believed to have been lost, since every release of the song has been in mono. How the stereo tape was lost has never been fully ascertained. Although the track has never been released in true stereo officially, which were released in "Duophonic" (Electronically Simulated Stereo). Toshiba EMI made duophonic mixes for the nine songs that had no stereo masters at the time the EPs were compiled. "I Want To Hold Your Hand", "She Loves You", "Long Tall Sally", Match Box", "Slow Down", "Sie Liebt Dich", "Paperback Writer", "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" are effective simulated stereo mixes. Test pressings are manufacturing samples intended to check the quality of a record before it is mass-producted. They are produced in very limited quantities and are very rare. They originally were not intended for public distribution. A blank version of the Odeon promotional label was used for test pressing. The catalog number "OP-4016" was and stamped at the bottom of the label. The title was handwritten on the label at a later time. The test pressing was done on red vinyl. |

Dark green apple label. In 1969, Toshiba had to reissue on the Apple label all the records previously issued on the Odeon label. And in the Apple label, there are two subtypes, TOSHIBA MUSICAL INDUSTRIES and TOSHIBA EMI. Further more, the early copies of the APPLE-TOSHIBA MUSICAL INDUSTRIES type have dark Apple on its label, though the late copies have light one. This E.P. was manufactured two ways: both Black and Red vinyl. |

Light green apple label. |

The 3rd. label change was the
expiration of Toshiba's contract with Apple, resulting in
the discontinuance of the Apple label. Toshiba had already begun use of the new EMI/Odeon label as early as 1976 on certain new releases not covered under the Apple label. By the early 1980's, the EMI/Odeon label had completely supplanted the Apple label on all Beatles releases. When the record label change, the EMI/Odeon logo also replaced the Apple logo on the front sleeves of all records. |
