COMMENTS | "The stars sing Lennon & McCartney"
contains 12 tracks which Lennon and McCartney composed but
became hits for other artists - performed by among others
billy j kramer, cilla black , peter & gordon and others. Release entitled "The Stars Sing Lennon & McCartney" on the back, title on the spine omits "The", and "Lennon & McCartney Songwriters" on the label. A1, A5 and B3 credited to Billy J. Kramer on sleeve. mfp (Music For Pleasure): Label started in 1965 as a joint venture between Hamlyn and EMI Records, selling low cost re-issues and also some original material. EMI provided the music and Hamlyn the publishing. The logo around this time has "Paul Hamlyn" and "EMI Records" circling the "mfp" logo. MFP had offices in various cities including Amsterdam, Brussels, Johannesburg, Köln, London, Sydney, Paris and Stockholm. At some point in the early seventies Hamlyn pulled out and EMI took control. MFP remained an independent company in Belgium. Also at this time a parallel label, Sounds Superb, was created. MFP carried on throughout the '70s, but at the start of the '80s ran into trouble. This was due to changes in technology and major label rationalisations. MFP ended up as little more than a worldwide distribution network. From the 3rd April 2006 MFP was revived under the control of EMI Gold. |
