First Press: Orange and yellow swirl label without
"subsidary" print.
The picture sleeve, Capitol used the same pictures, graphics and layout
of the British sleeve. One side of the sleeve features a color photo of
the group taken by Henry Grossman. The other side of the sleeve is designed
to look like a page from a photo album, complete with mounting corners and
childhood pictures of the Beatles.
A circlar "PRINTED IN U.S.A." appears in the upper right corner of the photo
album side.
Initial pressings of the record incorrectly list the running time of "Penny
Lane" at 3:00. The later issue was corrected 2:57 time.
There are East Coast and West Coast version.
East Coast version (type 1-A): picture sleeve issued in straight
cut top.
West Coast version (type 1-B): picture sleeve issued tub cut. |

Second Press: Orange and yellow swirl label without
"subsidary" print.
Some of the First Pressing of the single were issued with labels without
the running time of the songs. Although only East Coast.
Most of the singles have labels with running times (second press).
There are the usual East Coast Keystone (type 2-A), and West Coast
Bert-Co label (type 2-B) variations. In addition, some of the later
West Coast disks were pressed with L.A. (type 2-C) wide font labels.
The picture sleeve, a circled "PRINTED IN U.S.A." appears in the lower left
corner of the "Lady Madonna" side of the sleeve.
The East Coast version (type 1-A) of the sleeve has its larger side
as the "Lady Madonna" side and the Beatles' faces have a reddish tint. The
West Coast version (type 1-B) of the sleeve has its larger side as
the "Inner Light" side and the Beatles' faces have a greenish tint. |
