The second single, UA 750 was
released in either late September or early October 1964. It paired "A Hard Day's Night" with "I Should Have Known Better". This single contains instrumental versions of Beatles songs by George Martin. The front of the sleeve features a black and white picture of the group with a blue background rectangular box at the top. The text, graphics and layout of the blue upper portion of the sleeve are similar to that of the red upper portion of the first UA single. The back of the sleeve has a black and white Robert Freeman photograph of the group standing with George Martin that had previously appeared on the cover of Martin's first UA album, "Off The Beatle Track". Picture sleeves were printed by Queens Lito, are much less common than the picture sleeves to the huge-selling Capitol discs. The singles were pressed with white labels featuring the United Artists logo in black at the top. United Artists used three factories to press its singles: (A) Columbia Records in Bridgeport, Conneticut (B) Columbia Records in Terre Haute, Indiana (C) Monarch Records in Los Angeles, Carifornia. Type 1-A: The single pressed in Bridgeport have "GEORGE MARTIN & HIS ORCHESTRA." on 1 line in small print on the label. Type 1-B: The Terre Haute pressings have "GEORGE MARTIN & HIS ORCH." on 1 line in large print. Type 1-C: The Monarch disks have "GEORGE MARTIN & HIS ORCHESTRA" on the line in large print. |
