COMMENTS
|
This jukebox single is the first in the Odéon series to feature a picture sleeve. The record company decided to reproduce, on both the front and back, the design of the LP Les Beatles – Odéon OSX 222. To better distinguish each side of the sleeve, the title corresponding to each track was printed in larger type: I Want To Hold Your Hand on the front (for side A) and Hold Me Tight on the back (for side B). While Odéon could have
simply reproduced the UK 45 rpm single (I Want To Hold
Your Hand / This Boy – Parlophone R 5084), they curiously
chose to change the B-side, replacing This Boy with Hold
Me Tight (taken from the album Les Beatles – Odéon OSX
222). Three different versions of the disc have been identified:
The release policy of singles is somewhat unusual in France. It is primarily an EP country, and singles before All You Need Is Love were released as jukebox singles only, with 7 SO or SO prefixes in front of the five-digit catalogue numbers. The first two, From Me To You / Please Please Me and She Loves You / Twist And Shout, came in Odeon company hole covers. From Me To You is the only jukebox single to be issued on a yellow label; the first three after it came on the dark blue label (She Loves You / Twist And Shout with no picture cover; I Want To Hold Your Hand / Hold Me Tight and All My Loving / It Won't Be Long with picture covers). All were also available on the orange Odeon label. Sixteen jukebox singles came in customised picture covers, eleven of them with cut-out jukebox strips printed on the back for insertion into the display slots of the jukebox. DILLARD et Cie, lmp. Paris: Printing company located in Paris, France, headed by Michel Dillard (an old publisher from La Sirène éditions musicales). Often appears on releases as "Dillard et Cie. Imp. Paris" or "Dillard & Cie, Imp. Paris". |
