COMMENTS
|
The release policy of
singles is somewhat unusual in France. It is primarily an EP
country, and singles before All You Need Is Love were
released as jukebox singles only, with 7 SO or SO prefixes
in front of the five-digit catalogue numbers. The first two,
From Me To You / Please Please Me and She Loves You / Twist
And Shout, came in Odeon company hole covers. From Me To You is the only jukebox single to be issued on a yellow label; the first three after it came on the dark blue label (She Loves You / Twist And Shout with no picture cover; I Want To Hold Your Hand / Hold Me Tight and All My Loving / It Won't Be Long with picture covers). All were also available on the orange Odeon label. The last juke box single with a picture cover, We Can Work It Out / Day Tripper, had ads for Beatles EPs on the back and was the only one with a cardboard sleeve; all others had paper covers. The last one with the SO prefix, but 11 more singles followed in 1965-66 that had MO or FOS prefixes that were similar France Odeon singles and are similarly hard to find. Orange labels for SO, and green labels for MO. Imprimerie Jean Colombet: Imprimerie Jean Colombet is a French printing company based in Paris, 15th arrondissement, active in the manufacture of record sleeves from January 1960 until mid 1970's. May also appear as Colombet, Imprimerie Colombet, Imp. Jean Colombet or J. Colombet. Paris XV or Paris 15e isn't part of the company name, but notes that the company is located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. |
