Green label and Odeon
logo mark in white was printed above the center hole. "MADE IN GERMANY (straight)" and 45 in a triangle were printed at the bottom of the label. Pressed By – Carl Lindström GmbH Distributed By – Electrola Gesellschaft m.b.H. On 29th. January 1964, the Beatles recorded German lyric versions of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" at EMI Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris, France. Electrola initially pressed 100,000 copies of the single for sale in Hamburg, Munich, Frankfort and Cologne. The German lyrics were written by Camillo Jean Nicolas Felgen, who wrote under the names Jean Nicolas, Heinz Hellmer and Lee Montague. Felgen was a Luxembourg-born singer, lyricist and television and radio presenter. The single came in a purple-tinted picture sleeve featuring the Dezo Hoffman portrait of the group used by EMI on promotional poster. The German text "Erste deutche Original-Aufnahme" translates to "First German original recording." The initial copies of the sleeve mistakenly identify the B-side as "Sie liebt mich," which translates to "She loves me". There are no references to the German-lyric disc in the British music magazines from Feburuary and March, 1964. Thus, it is unlikely that the Odeon single was imported into the U.K. for sale to British fans. (from "Beatles For Sale On Parlophone Records") The Original Odeon label single's appear in two slightly different styles. The first of these styles, features the following print around the rim of the label: ALLE HERSTELLER. UND URHEBERRECHTE VORBEHALTEN ÜBERSPIELUNG ÖFFENTLICHE AUFFÜHRUNG UND RUNDFUNKSENDUNG UNTERSAGT (All rights of the manufacturer reserved. Copying, public performance, and radio broadcast prohibited.) Comes in original beatles picture company sleeve - was original released like that. 1st. Press: LABEL: Green Odeon label, white logo and black print Details: A-side: BIEM and GEMA, B-side: BIEM and GEMA 2nd. Press: LABEL: Green Odeon label, white logo and black print Details: A-side: GEMA, B-side: GEMA "GEMA**/BIEM***" :a marking that indicates what company is responsible for the copyright payments for the material released on the record to the proper publishers. It is important to remember that a record with the above-mentioned marking isn't necessarily made in Germany but which was intended for sale in Germany. |
