Capitol green budget
line label. Scheduled for release October 1979, but was cancelled. No cover prepared. Capitol had prepared a budget line Beatles LP titled "Rarities (Capitol SN-12009). The album contains the same selections as the bonus "Ratities" disc (Capitol SPRO-8969) included in the 1978 "Beatles Collection Box Set" and should not be confused with the "Rarities" album (Capitol SHAL 12060) later issued in March 1980. The discs were pressed with black on green labels featuring the classic Capitol dome logo. When Capitol realized that many of the album's songs were not particularly rare in the U.S., the project was scrapped before any covers were manufactured. A limit number of discs were pressed and placed in generic white jackets before the release was cancelled. cf. Wallace Traugott: Mastering and lacquer-cutting engineer based in America. Having had a recording career as a fiddle player in his native Canada, more famously worked for Capitol Records' Capitol Mastering subsidiary. "Wally" or "Wly" is always credited in the runout grooves of the record, with Mastered at Capitol stamped in, and the "Wally" signature etched alongside. |
