East Coast (Scranton) mono first pressings have an empty line after "The Bitter End" and before the next track.
The empty space was left so that the typesetter could add the writer’s credit to later copies of the label without adjusting the placement of the other song titles. The West Coast (L.A.) mono first pressings do not have an empty line after The Bitter End.
These first variation labels are identified by the lack of credit given to the composer "Ken Thorne".

COMMENTS
This album is the 12-track soundtrack consisting of songs recorded by The Beatles and instrumentals by Ken Thorne And His Orchestra, compiled by Capitol in the US.

The front cover has “Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” in dark blue uppercase letters at the top. Moving downward, “THE” is centered above a larger “BEATLES” in large orange block letters.
This is followed by pictures of each band member taken from the front cover of the British LP. The group appears to be standing on top of the orange, yellow and black HELP! logo from the film. Paul’s left arm points towards a black Capitol logo.
The text at the bottom of the cover lists the titles to the Beatles songs on the album in dark blue uppercase letters. This is followed by the phrase
“And Exclusive Instrumental Music From the Picture’s Soundtrack,” which is also in dark blue print.
Although the Beatles are in color on the Parlophone cover, they appear in black and white on the Capitol cover. They are also in a different order than on the British jacket.
The photograph for the Parlophone album was taken by Robert Freeman at Twickenham Film Studios on a specially constructed platform. The Beatles dressed
in the black hats, coats and capes worn during the film’s ski sequence.

The back cover features a cropped version of the color photograph of the Beatles used for the picture sleeve for Capitol’s Help! single. This photo was taken in the Bahamas by Robert Freeman during the filming of the movie.
Information regarding the film and album appears above the picture in orange, green, brown and black print.

The listing of the album’s songs is in orange print, with the titles to the Beatles songs in uppercase letters. At the time the back cover was designed, the instrumental selections had not been named. Thus, all five of the non-Beatles performances are identified as “(instrumental)” in the track listing. An prototype  version of the back cover slick listed only the Beatles songs and contained the phrase “see album for correct playing order” in black. However, the cover was corrected before the first print run. Therefore, no completed LPs show the preliminary print, reading “See label for correct playing order.”

The album covers do not have the usual information regarding factories or mono or stereo recordings. Nor do they have the RIAA or High Fidelity or FDS logos. The customary “File Under,” black dot and record number information is also missing.

The original issue Capitol albums were manufactured with black label backdrops with an outer rim colorband. Label copy information specific to each album appears in silver print.
The labels for records manufactured on:
1) The East Coast were printed by Keystone Printed Specialties, Inc. in Scranton, Pensylvania.
2) The West Coast were printed by Bert-Co Enterprises in Los Angeles, California.

1)First Pressings:
  • East Coast (Scranton) mono have an empty line after "The Bitter End" and before the next track. The empty space was left so that the typesetter could add the writer’s credit to later copies of the label without adjusting the placement of the other song titles.
  • The West Coast (L.A.) mono first pressings do not have an empty line after The Bitter End.
  • These first variation labels are identified by the lack of credit given to the composer Ken Thorne.

The labels of the stereo first pressings have the same characteristics as the mono labels. There are East Coast and West Coast, stereo labels without Ken Thorne credits.

Second Pressings:
  • After Capitol learned that Ken Thorne had written the non-Lennon-McCartney instrumental selections on the album, the company revised its label copy to include his name after the three previously uncredited selections. This, however, was not the final variation of the label.

3rd. Pressings:
  • An additional change was made after Capitol realized that the fourth track on Side Two was actually a combination of Ken Thorne’s The Bitter End and a jazz arrangement of Lennon and McCartney’s You Can’t Do That. The second variation has Ken Thorne credits, but does not list You Can’t Do That as part of the fourth selection on Side Two.

There are West Coast mono and West Coast stereo labels with Ken Thorne credits without You Can’t Do That listed as part of the fourth track on Side Two.
These label variations are the only ones with the title and information for the opening song Help! printed above the spindle hole.
