COMMENTS
|
Capitol Records marked
the thirtieth anniversary of the release of the Beatles
first British single, Love Me Do, was a limited edition
reissue of the single (reportedly 5,000 copies) available
only through a mail-in offer. The front side of the picture sleeve is nearly identical to the front side of the twentieth anniversary sleeve, but with a slightly different cropping of Angus McBean's photo and without the Capitol logo and record number. The sleeve's back side features another McBean picture from the same session. The Beatles drop T logo is centered above the picture with the song titles to the left and right of the base of the "T." The bottom of the sleeve has Apple, Capitol and Parlophone logos. The discs were pressed by Specialty Records in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, with white labels with black text. The Capitol dome logo is prominently featured at the top. The lower part of the label has the Beatles drop T logo above the song title, with an Apple logo to the left and a Parlophone logo to the right. The labels state "For Promotional Use Only Not For Resale" in uppercase letters. Love Me Do is identified as the "TOPSIDE" and is numbered 7PRO-79551. P.S. I Love You is designated as the "FLIPSIDE" and is numbered 7PRO-79552. Unlike the twentieth anniversary discs, this record contains the "Original single version" with Ringo on drums. Some singles came with a 6¼" x 4" gray postcard, thanking the Beatles Fan for taking part in the "30th Anniversary Beatles promotion."
