In 1986, the
Beatles recording of Twist And Shout was used in the
soundtrack to Ferris Bueller's Day Off starring Matthew
Broderick. As the film appealed to young audiences, Capitol
saw this as an opportunity to reach a new generation of
listeners and, of course, sell some records. The song was
paired with There's A Place, which was the B side to Twist
And Shout over 20 years earlier on Tollie 9001, Oldies
OL-152 and Capitol Star Line 6061.

The 1986 disc contains

COMMENTS
|
In 1986, the Beatles
high-spirited recording of Twist And Shout was used in the
soundtrack to Ferris Bueller's Day Off starring Matthew
The recycled single was released as Capitol B-5624 on July
23, 1986. Unlike the earlier released 45s, the 1986 disc
contains stereo mixes of both songs. It entered The
Billboard Hot 100 on August 9 at 89 and peaked at 23 during
its 15 weeks on the charts. Capitol placed a 3" x ⅞" sticker
on The Early Beatles LP stating "Includes Twist And Shout".
The reissued single has black background labels with an
outer rim colorband and the Capitol logo in light blue and
white at twelve o'clock. The label is patterned after the
classic Capitol label backdrops used on the Beatles albums
from the sixties. By the time the single was released,
Capitol had closed its Los Angeles record factory. The job
number A13577 is hand etched into the trail off areas of the
styrene West Coast pressings. These discs were pressed by
Monarch Records of Los Angeles, which manufactured copies of
the single for Vee-Jay as the company's first release on its
Tollie subsidiary back in early 1964.
The white label promo disc has the same stereo mix of Twist
And Shout on both sides. It is a styrene pressing with the
same trail off area job number as the West Coast stock copy. |
