COMMENTS
|
First Press: Orange and
yellow swirl label without "subsidary" print.
The picture sleeve for the single features a playful color
photo of the group that occupies the right third of the
sleeve. The face of the Beatles, each titled at the
different angle, appear one on top of the other, as if
peaking out from behind a partially open door. The left
two-thirds of the sleeve has a blue background with the song
titles, Capitol logo and catalog number 2138 in yellow.
A circled "PRINTED IN U.S.A." appears in white in the lower
left corner of the "Lady Madonna" side of the sleeve.
Both variations of the sleeve have straight cut tops.
There are East Coast and West Coast version.
1) East Coast press:
picture sleeve issued in straight cut top.
Has a reddish tint
that gives the faces a pink coloration and the blue
background a hint of purple.
The left and right sides of the folded paper visible on the
"Lady Madonna" side are straight.
Some of the later West Coast pressings have a LA wide font
labels.
2) West Coast press: picture
sleeve
issued straight cut top.
Has a greenish tint
that is visible on the faces and gives the blue background
an almost faded look.
The left and right sides of the folded paper visible on the
"The Inner Light" side are bowed outward at the bottom.
The singles were also packaged with a folded flyer,
promoting membership in the Official Beatles Fan Club.
