These are Australian
EPs. Starting with GEPO, which adds an "O" to the original UK catalogue number GEP, there is the 8000 series which follows the original UK release, as well as the 70000 series which is unique to Australia. There are also some which follow the original UK release but have unique Australian jacket photos. Furthermore, mono LP tapes are mainly used as the sound source for Australian EPs, and it is said that the only songs sent by Metal Mother from the UK were Side 2 of "The Beatles' Hits," "All My Loving," "Nowhere Man," and "Magical Mystery Tour (stereo and mono)." All Australian EPs are Solid Centre. All Australian EPs are 45 rpm. Released in the middle of the Fab Four's 1964 tour downunder, EMI (Australia) had decided that the time was right to milk the EP market with a series of local-only releases, much like they had been doing with singles. Here, they took the first two tracks from the UK Long Tall Sally EP (although, more specifically, they sourced the tracks from a US copy of The Beatles Second Album LP, like they did much of the artwork), and added two tracks from the Please Please Me LP. Unsurprisingly, the EP hit the top of the singles charts in most cities thanks to the pull of 'Long, Tall Sally' and 'Boys'. The EP remained in print until December 1978. In June 1979, it, along with all unique-to-Australia 70000-series Beatles EPs, were recut and reissued with updated artwork. For the recut, EMI (Australia) went back to stereo tapes but mastered in mono, the reason being to 'maintain the feel of the original sound' (more accurately they had temporarily lost the original mono EP tape—PARLO 99—that contained all the EP tracks in glorious mono). Oddly though, for this EP, both 'Long Tall Sally' and 'I Call Your Name' play in stereo. This reissue first appeared in September 1979. Yellow Parlophone Label: This label style first appeared on All My Loving in April 1964 and remained in use until the end of March 1982, making it the most common label style to appear on Beatles EPs. Several variations existed: Yellow Parlophone Type-A: April 1964-June 1969: Royalty stamps to the left of the centre hole, catalogue and matrix numbers to the right. Some labels printed during 1968/69 have completely different typesetting, suggesting the use of a second printing house. Yellow Parlophone Type-B: July 1969-June 1987: No royalty stamps, catalogue and matrix numbers to the left of the centre hole. New fonts used on track titles. Commencing around 1976, labels were reprinted with newer IBM Selectric-based typesetting. Post-September 1979 reissues generally credit Lennon-McCartney tracks to "ATV Northern Songs". From August 1980, EPs appeared without the anti-skid ribbing and from 1981 with a smaller inner ring as a result of EMI (Australia) installing new Toshiba-EMI automatic presses and subsequently changing the 7" mould.
