Capitol's first
Beatles' EP was released on 11th May 1964. It was titled
"Four By The Beatles" and featured the four songs. The EP issued in a cardboard jacket, that features a light - orange - tinted Dezo Hoffman portrait of the group taken at the same April, 1963, photo session as the classic picture used on the sleeve for the "I Want To Hold Your Hand" single. The upper portion of the jacket has a Capitol logo and "Produced by GEORGE MARTIN" in white. The front and back covers are identical. Capitol did not use its familiar swirl label for the EP, but rather pressed the records with solid green or blue labels with all information in silver print. The East Coast pressings: have blue labels with left justified song titles and songwriter's credits. The West Coast pressings: have green labels with centered song titles and centered writer's credits. In addition, the word "RECORDS" appears below the Capitol logo. |
