COMMENTS
|
In March 1978, Capitol switched to
a purple label with a large dome logo at the top. The
perimeter print contains the phrase "Mfd. By Capitol
Records". In September, 1975, Capitol added a lengthy "All Rights Reserved" saying to all their albums. The whole Beatles' LP catalog was transferred to the purple Capitol label with "All Rights Reserved." Capitol's album catalog prefixes incorporated a price code as the second letter. "S" indicated stereo, while the second letter indicated the applicable price category. For the 1970 release of Hey Jude, SO-385 represented the $6.98 price category, while SW-385 represented the reduced $5.98 price category. The trail off areas to the records generated from the original Bell Sound lacquers have the "SO" prefix. Some of the Winchester pressings have a "W" written over the "O" in the "SO" prefix.
