Capitol Records, a subsidiary of EMI in the UK, began officially releasing Beatles albums in the U.S. in earnest starting in 1964.  A notable characteristic of these early American releases was that they were edited differently from their UK counterparts. For example, U.S. albums often featured fewer tracks, included songs from singles that were not on the UK albums, and sometimes had added reverb or other audio modifications. This gave the Capitol releases a distinctive sound and style. Albums such as Meet The Beatles! and Yesterday and Today are well-known examples of these uniquely American compilations.
Later, in 1968, The Beatles started their own label called Apple Records. They wanted more freedom and control over their music. Beginning with The White Album, Apple Records became the vehicle for their subsequent releases.
From Sgt. Pepper in 1967, Beatles albums were mostly the same as the UK versions, and the album formats became unified around the world.
Capitol Records focused on editing albums for the U.S. market, while Apple Records let The Beatles release music the way they wanted, with more consistency around the world.
