Promotional
Copy. White label with black ink. Atlantic Records followed in the footsteps of MGM and Vee-Jay by releasing a compilation album containing only four Beatles songs, all of which had been released on a pair of summer singles. Including their hit single "Ain't She Sweet", add in eight songs, six of them written by Beatles Lennon and McCartney, done by another group from England, The Swallows. The record was pressed in mono and stereo. The songs on the stereo album are not true stereo, but rather are mono mixes electronically enhanced to simulate stereo. The album has a black background front cover slick featuring white letters stripped with lines and bars of red, blue, green and black. The mono cover has an ATCO logo centerd below and catalogue number 33-169 is white and centered at the bottom. The stereo cover's front slick is positioned lower to reveal "STEREO" centered at the top in red, blue, and green, followed by the centered catalogue number in white. The first-run back liners list "THE BEATLES" as artist for the first four tracks. Later liners add "with Tony Sheridan" to the artist credit for the three songs following "Ain't She Sweet". Type-1) Most discs were pressed by MGM Bloomfield. The mono discs have blue-gray, white and gold labels with black text. First-run labels do not credit "Tony Sheridan", while later labels have the "with Tony Sheridan" credit. The stereo labels are lavender, white and tan with black text. There are also stereo labels without, and with the Tony Sheridan credit. All white promo discs are without the Tony Sheridan credit. Type-2) The Monarch pressings: Mono and stereo labels have two (rather than one) song titles above the center hole. Monarch labels have only been confirmed with the "Tony Sheridan" credit. Atco reissued the album in 1969. By this time, all the company's albums were manufactured in stereo. The records were pressed with Atco Yellow labels. |
