COMMENTS
|
In October 1980,
Capitol Records deleted and dissected its double album
"Rock'n' Roll Music" LP, reissuing the album in two separate
volumes as part of its budget line (Capitol's budget priced
"green line" with a 1976 and 1980 copyright dates). The covers to Rock 'n' Roll Music Volume 1 (Capitol SN-16020)" and "Rock'n' Roll Music Volume 2 (Capitol SN-16021) are nearly identical. Both front covers feature the same Micheal Bryan illustration of the Beatles upon arriving at New York's Kennedy Airport on Friday 7, 1964. The back covers have the song titles for each side in separate white boxes. The records were pressed with black on green labels featuring the classic Capitol dome logo. The increased demand for Beatles product following the death of John Lennon led to higher than anticipated sales. A1 and A6 from the LP "The Early Beatles" released 1965. A2 and A4 from the LP "Meet The Beatles" released 1964. A3, A5, A7, B4 and B7 from the LP "The Beatles' Second Album" released 1964. B1 from the LP "Beatles '65" released 1964. B2 and B6 from the LP "Something New" released 1964. B3 and B5 from the LP "Beatles VI" released 1965. cf. SRC signature -> Specialty Records Corporation (Stamped, Large S with the R and C in the loops) Defunct US manufacturer and pressing plant which was located in Olyphant, PA. Founded in 1946, Specialty Records Corporation was at one point one of the biggest pressing plants in the world. Warner Communications Inc. purchased Specialty in 1978 along with Allied Record Company in 1979 to form WEA Manufacturing Inc. CD pressing started at the plant in September 1986. They also manufactured 8-tracks, cassettes, VHS tapes, and DVDs. Specialty pressed records for a huge range of major and minor record labels, including Asylum Records and Island Records, as well as for record pressing brokers. WEA operated the pressing plant under the Specialty name until the plant was officially renamed WEA Mfg. Olyphant at the end of 1996. In 2003, the facility was sold to Cinram as part of their takeover of WEA Manufacturing. Cinram operated the plant until November 2015, when Cinram's North American operations were acquired by Technicolor. Technicolor closed the plant on May 1, 2018. |
