Capitol New Purple
Label. From Summer of 1988 onward, the "new purple" label has been in use by Capitol. In addition to a smaller logo, the label differs from earlier styles because the rim print starts with "MANUFACTURED BY CAPITOL." I.e., the word "manufactured" is spelled out. The rim print stretches almost all the way around the label. This single was pressed in October 1992. Copies in black vinyl are rather common. Mispress on red vinyl that is said to be between 300 - 3000 copies pressed in March 1993. This was the first of the "For Jukeboxes Only" releases. CEMA originally ordered these in black vinyl. Specialty had just finished a run of red vinyl singles for another artist, and the operator forgot to change to black "biscuits". Both sides are in mono. (*) CEMA CEMA was a record label distribution branch and budget label of Capitol-EMI. CEMA Special Markets was the division that handled the licensing of recordings by Capitol-EMI artists. They also distributed special jukebox 45rpm singles in conjunction with the Collectables record label (which were reissues), pairing two unique sides and often featuring longer stereo recordings that were not available in regular record stores. The name CEMA stood for the four EMI-owned labels it originally distributed: Capitol Records, EMI Records, Manhattan Records, and Angel Records (although several other labels such as Virgin, Chrysalis, and Blue Note were later distributed as well). |
