The history of The Beatlesf singles in the U.S. didnft start smoothly. Before Capitol Records began officially releasing their music in 1964, a few smaller American labels had released some of their songs, but these didnft get much attention.
EMI, their UK label, first asked Capitol Records to release Beatles songs in America. But Capitol said no, thinking the group wouldnft be popular. Later, Vee-Jay Records released songs like gPlease Please Me,h but they didnft do well at first. Swan Records also released gShe Loves You,h but it wasnft a big hit either.
Decca had released "My Bonnie," a song recorded during The Beatlesf time in Hamburg, but it wasnft even under the Beatlesf name and remained largely unknown.
Everything changed in 1964 when Capitol released gI Want to Hold Your Hand.h It became a huge hit, and The Beatles suddenly became very popular in the U.S. After that, Capitol released many successful singles. Other labels like MGM and ATCO also started releasing older songs that The Beatles recorded with Tony Sheridan in Hamburg, hoping to join the wave of popularity.
In 1968, The Beatles started their own label, Apple Records. From then on, they released music the way they wanted, with more control over their songs and how they were shared with the world.
