COMMENTS
At the end of the summer of 1968, on 26th August, the Beatles issued their first single on their new label.

At the time "HEY JUDE" was released in August, 1968, Capitol was pressing singles at its factories in Los Angeles, California, and Scranton, Pennsylvania.
1) The Los Angeles records have a machine stamped asterisk (*) in their trail off areas.
The labels for Los Angeles discs were printed by Bert-Co Enterprises of Los Angeles.
2) The Scranton records can be identified by the logo of the International Association Machinists stamped in their trail off areas.
The label for Scranton records were printed by Queens Litho in New York, with the label copy overprinted by Keystone Printed Specialties Co., Inc. of Scranton.
3) Sometime in 1969, Capitol's factory in Jacksonville, Illinois, began manufacturing singles. These records have either a hand etched "O" or a machine stamped "0" in their trail off areas.
4) In late 1969, Capitol opened a new factory in Winchester, Virginia. The trail off areas to the Winchester discs have a hand etched drawing that is supported to resemble a Winchester rifle, but looks more like a crudely drawn long-stermmed wine glass.
5) In order to meet the huge demand for Beatles records, Capitol often subcontracted with other companies, such as RCA, to manufacture singles.

Apple did not prepared a picture sleeve for "HEY JUDE", making it the first Capitol-distributed Beatles single issued without a picture sleeve. Instead, the record was packaged in "The Beatles on Apple" sleeves.
1) East coast singles were issued in straight cut sleeves manufactured by Queens Litho.
2) West coast singles were initially packaged with Bert-Co tab cut sleeves.
