COMMENTS

The Beatles' 5th E.P. The First to contain previously unreleased material. These tracks stayed exclusive to this E.P. for 12 years, until the release of the double album Rock 'N' Roll Music in 1976. "Long Tall Sally" and "I Call Your Name" were recorded on 1st March 1964. "Slow Down" was recorded 1st June 1964 with John on lead vocal."Matchbox" is sung by Ringo, and was also recorded on 1st June. The cover picture taken by Robert Freeman was taken in October 1963 with the Beatles standing on a wall beside the Stockholm Town Hall, and the sleeve notes on this occasion are by Derek Taylor. Beginning in 1964, Parlophone (and all the other EMI companies) began printing a phrase in the centers of all their singles, EP's and LP's, which said: SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS. The original EP jackets were manufactured by third printing company(?) (identified as "SCP" in the lower right corner). |

The 3rd. pressing was
with capitalized printing of "THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD." at
the perimeter. The "Sold in U.K." text has gone from the
label. Instead of the words "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963", the "(P)-1964" statement was printed at the left part of the label. |
