U.K. EPs

In Britain, the extended play (EP) record offered a format between the single and the LP. Usually containing four tracks on a 7-inch disc, the EP brought together selected Beatles recordings in a distinctive picture sleeve. The original Parlophone mono series began on 12th July 1963 with Twist and Shout (GEP 8882) and continued through Nowhere Man in 1966.

Magical Mystery Tour, released in December 1967, was an unusual addition to the British EP catalog. Its six soundtrack songs were presented on two discs in a gatefold sleeve with an illustrated booklet, and the set was issued in both mono and stereo. Label typography, printer credits, sleeve construction, centers, and matrix numbers help distinguish different U.K. EP pressings and reissues.
