Parlophone label with silver print: the name "THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD.(capital letter)" on the outer rim, the "SOLD IN U.K." remark, and the "(P) 1966" statement. Sleeves for "Revolver (stereo)" did two London’s of printing house: Ernest J. Day & Co Ltd. and Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. This issue has a sleeve made by Garrod & Lofthouse. Some of copies can be found with "stereo" embossed in black in the upper right hand corner of the front cover. The mono and stereo releases were issued in separate catalog number series until early 1966. In 1966, the catalog number series was restarted at 7001 with mono and stereo releases now having the same catalog numbers. Early labels misprint the side 2 track Doctor Robert as "Dr. Robert". The "Dr. Robert" error on side 2 has been corrected, now correctly reading "Doctor Robert". This probably occurred within a short time after the LP was first released. First label has Sans-serif print and song name “DR. ROBERT” on the Side 2. |

Parlophone label with silver print: the name "THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD.(capital letter)" on the outer rim, "SOLD IN U.K." text was removed from the label. Beginning in 1964, Parlophone (and all the other EMI companies) began printing a phrase in the centers of all their singles, EP's and LP's, which said: SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS. This notice appears on the labels of every UK market EMI product, from very early 1964, right through mid-1969. "Columbia" label pressing.
This pressing is found in two variations. The first variation has the Columbia logo on the side 1 and Parlophone logo on the side 2. The second variation has Parlophone logo on the side 1 and a Columbia logo on side 2 (=this record). Black and White Parlophone label with silver print: with two "EMI" marks, placed at the top and bottom, which are white with black print (reversed). The company's name "EMI RECORDS LTD." and the word "MADE IN GT. BRITAIN" were printed on the outer rim. With a "FACTORY SAMPLE" sticker on the back cover. After the test pressings were approved, and copies were run with the promo labels on them, the printer then loaded the machines with the proper labels for the disk's standard release. Then samples were taken from possibly each press machine making the records, and affixed with a sticker (red ink on white) and checked for quality. The mono and stereo releases were issued in separate catalog number series until early 1966. In 1966, the catalog number series was restarted at 7001 with mono and stereo releases now having the same catalog numbers. About the song title of the 4th song on side-1, this label was printed "love You Too" instead of "Love You To", however, the title on the album cover still remained. Both Columbia and Parlophone changed their label design adding an EMI boxed logo (one EMI boxed logo label) at the bottom of the label, in 1969: this design with silver text on black background was used from the end of 1969 and the beginning of 1971: In early 1971, Columbia and Parlophone added another EMI logo (two EMI boxed logo label) at the top of the label: this two EMI boxed logo design lasted for many years: That is as to say that all the Beatles albums were re-pressed on two EMI boxed logos label with the start of the label perimeter print as “THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD…: well: it seems to me that between 1971 and 1973 was reissued the entire Beatles catalog. On 1st July 1973, The Gramophone Company Limited was renamed to EMI Records Limited, and accordingly the start of the labels perimeter print was changed to “EMI RECORDS LTD…”. However, this change was not always straightforward: we know that, for example, the album "Burn" released by Deep Purple on February 1974, still had the old perimeter print. In October 1980 the rim-text was again altered so that it started with “ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER…”. |
