The Beatles' U.K. LP catalog began in March
1963 with Please Please Me, released on EMI's Parlophone
label. During the first half of the 1960s, particularly
from 1963 to 1965, The Beatles followed a remarkably
demanding and regular release schedule in the U.K.,
generally issuing two LPs and three or four singles each
year. Many of these singles were released separately and
were not included on the original LPs.
The early albums were released in both mono and stereo,
with differences in mixes, label designs, sleeves, and
pressing details.
In 1967, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band marked an
important step toward more consistent album releases
internationally. In the U.K., however, Magical Mystery
Tour was originally issued as a double EP rather than an
LP. The Beatles established Apple Records in 1968, and The
Beatles (the White Album) was their first U.K. LP released
on the Apple label, with EMI continuing to manufacture and
distribute the records. This index covers the original
British mono and stereo LPs, the 1981 mono reissues,
compilation albums, and export editions.
Records released on non-EMI labels are also listed in
separate categories. |
