Flexi-discs are thin, flexible records
designed to be played on a conventional record player.
Inexpensive to produce, they were often distributed as
fan-club gifts, promotional items, or supplements to
printed publications. For Beatles collectors, the format
is especially associated with the Christmas messages
sent to members of the Official Beatles Fan Club.
From 1963 to 1969, the British fan club issued annual Christmas flexi-discs featuring spoken greetings, sketches, and brief musical performances by The Beatles. Other U.K. releases were produced for promotional purposes, including a sampler for The Beatles Singles Collection 1962–1970 and the “Sound Of The Stars” flexi-disc offered through Disc and Music Echo.
