Promotional Record. PRO-USE SERIES: A series of Japanese audiophile recordings, issued by Toshiba Musical Industries Ltd. and Toshiba-EMI Ltd. The LP's master tape is not the master tape used to produce the domestic version "Abbey road", but uses a master tape newly ordered from the UK. The box on the "Abbey road" master tape stored at EMI Studio has a record for Japan at this time. It can be confirmed by the jacket of the same album recorded in the box set called Beatles The Collection released by MFSL. At that time, the copy tape that EMI of Japan requested from the UK was not a normal copy, but a copy at 76 cm / sec. Since the original master tape is 38 cm / sec (15 ips), it is normally copied as it is at 15 ips, but Toshiba's Pro Use series prepares the master tape at 76 cm / sec at double speed and cuts it at half speed Was adopted. Apple white label (promotional use only). The words "Sample" inside a rectangle and "Not For Sale" were printed at upper left side of the label. The release date "5th. June"was printed on both labels. With "MFD. BY TOSHIBA-EMI LTD. JAPAN" credit. and added the "JASRAC" logo mark. The song order on the back cover is incorrect. "Maxwell's...." and "Something" should be interchanged. LP cover cannot be found with "Her Majesty" listed but can be found on the label. |

COMMENTS

Limited edition picture
record. Issued Feb. 1979 in die-cut, psychedelic jacket. Same cover and disc design as ABBEY ROAD U.S. picture record. The Abbey Road picture disc has an image of the album's front cover on side-1 and an image of the back cover without the text on side-2. It was packaged in a die-cut psychedelic-patterned multi-colored cover with a large open hole on the front that exposed the picture disc. The back cover has the same psychedelic pattern as the front, with the song titles centered in black print running top to bottom. During the picture disc craze of the late 1970s, two Beatles LPs were officially released in that format – Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road. Capitol overpressed the Sgt. Pepper LP, and it became difficult to sell. As a result, the later release of Abbey Road. sold in significantly fewer numbers, as many retailers didn’t bother to stock it, fearing that it wouldn’t sell. Both titles were also released in Japan, and the Japanese pressings are much harder to find than their American counterparts, particularly so for Abbey Road. Song order on back cover is finally correct (Something / Maxwell's Silver Hummer). "JAPAN MUSICOLOR CO. LTD. PAT 634573" credit and JASRAC logo were printed on the label of side-2. |
