In the 1960s, Beatles records in Japan were released by Toshiba Musical Industries. The company partnered with EMI in the UK and issued Beatles records under the Odeon label. Beginning with Meet the Beatles! in 1964, a large number of LPs were released. These Japanese editions featured unique elements such as OBI strips, liner notes, and lyric sheets with Japanese translations. Their deluxe packaging has been highly regarded by fans and collectors. In particular, the so-called “Red Vinyl” editions—transparent red pressings known as “Ever Clean Records”—became a distinctive feature of Japanese releases. Many of these were produced between 1964 and the early 1970s. Additionally, some albums were edited specifically for the Japanese market, with track selections and sequencing different from their UK or US counterparts. In 1973, Toshiba Musical Industries changed its name to Toshiba EMI and continued reissuing the Beatles catalog. Today, these releases are managed by Universal Music Japan.
